Lisa Bennett, WI State Licensed Massage Therapist
1995 Graduate of The Minneapolis School of Massage and Body Work
When I was 16, I received my first massage. It was years later, after earning a degree in psychology and experiencing burn-out while working in the domestic violence field, that the idea of massage therapy as a career came to mind.
While attending a medical conference with my mom, a nurse, I sat in on a presentation by a woman who had had a traumatic knee injury and a long, difficult recovery period. A nurse at the time of her injury, she attributed a huge amount of her recovery to a knowledgeable and talented massage therapist. She went on to talk about the benefits that massage therapy offers people and why she shifted from a career in nursing to one in massage therapy.
I was impressed by this woman’s story and intrigued by the healing potential of massage therapy. On the trip home it became clear to me that I needed to pursue education to become a massage therapist. I had no idea what a wise move this would be for me.
Massage therapy has been a perfect career for me. After more than twenty-five years in practice, I am still thrilled and amazed that my work improves people’s sense of well being. The body is a complex and often mysterious thing. Clients present with a myriad of issues and I am continually learning from them. It is my goal to listen closely to each client’s needs and adjust my work to meet those needs.
